TEKNOLOGI KOMUNIKASI MODERN

Di negara maju pun, berbagai tempat ibadahpun sampai sekarang tetap menggunakan perangkat komunikasi tradisional, yang dapat dilakukan oleh siapa saja dengan harga murah, mudah membuatnya dan dilakukan secara pertisipatif dari seluruh lapisan masyarakat. Bisa dalam tingkat lokal maupun regional.

Kita dapat memperhatikan apa yang terjadi di negara majupun tetap menggunakan teknologi komunikasi tradisional, tidak melulu setelah bisa membeli atau membuat teknologi komunikasi modern terus yang lama ditinggalkan. Baik di Jepang, di seantero Eropa maupun Amerika, China, dll, juga menggunakan teknologi komunikasi tradisional yaitu "lonceng". Mengapa? Di negara maju bisa jadi yang namanya aliran listrik tidak pernah putus.

Bagaimana dengan Indonesia, jika hanya mengandalkan teknologi modern yang notabene selalu tergantung kepada energi listrik (BBM, surya, angin dll). Apalagi di bagian terpencil (di desa-desa lereng gunung berapi, pulau-pulau kecil, di tengah hutan Papua, Kalimantan, Sumatera dan Sulawesi).

Uraian di atas merupakan bagian dari orasi Sugiarto Danu dalam rangka pengukuhannya sebagai Profesor Riset bidang Polimerisasi Radiasi di Gedung Badan Tenaga Atom Nasional (BATAN), Jakarta, Senin (20/4).

"Proses pelapisan ini diaplikasikan untuk berbagai produk industri, misalnya bahan bangunan seperti cat, mebel, otomotif, peralatan rumah tangga dan barang-barang cetakan," kata Sugiarto yang adalah ahli peneliti utama bidang polimerisasi radiasi di BATAN.

Lebih lanjut ia menjelaskan bahwa penggunaan teknologi radiasi ini tidak mencemarkan lingkungan karena bahan pelarut yang pelapisnya tidak menggunakan bahan pelarut yang mudah menguap sehingga menimbulkan pencemaran udara. Sedangkan efisiensinya, katanya, ditunjukkan dengan pemadatan yang sangat cepat sehingga kapasitas produksi jauh lebih besar.

Memasuki era globalisasi dan kesadaran yang semakin tinggi tentang pentingnya lingkungan, berhasil memberikan dorongan untuk meluaskan penggunaan teknologi ini di masa datang, ungkap Sugiarto yang judul orasinya Status dan Perkembangan Aplikasi Teknologi Radiasi untuk Pelapisan Permukaan berbagai Produk Industri di Indonesia.

Dengan pengukuhan ini, Sugiarto yang menjadi orang 260 dalam Komunitas Peneliti Nasional dan Professor Peneliti ke-38 di BATAN. Dua peneliti BATAN lain yang juga dikukuhkan sebagai Profesor Riset adalah Suriah Pinem di bidang Fisika Reaktor Nuklir sebagai orang ke-261 dan 39 dan Sigit untuk Bidang Teknik Kimia urutan ke-262 dan 40. Mereka dikukuhkan oleh Kepala LIPI selaku Ketua Majelis Pengukuhan Profesor Riset Umar Anggoro Jeni.
